California collection background
UCI Irvine has been a selective depository for California State Documents since 1968. This collection includes materials from most of the California agencies. Material has be received through the depository system and directly from the agencies. The documents in the collection cover issues under the control of or of concern to the governor, state legislture or governmental agency, such as, water, geology, laws, education, economy, labor, transportation, health, etc. The cataloged paper collection is located in the Langson Library Basement level. Much of the new material is available on-line and can be accessed through the ANTPAC cataloging records. Cataloging of older material is continuing at this time. When someone cannot find older material in the ANTPAC please contact the California State Document Librarian.
The ANTPAC location for California documents is "Langson Gov Info CA". In addition to the CalDoc number each document has green tape on the upper left corner. The collection is arranged by the CalDoc classification of the California State Library, not Library of Congress call number. The CalDoc classification is composed of a letter and number representing the issuing agency, followed by another letter and number for the specific publication. Here is a typical CalDoc number: L500.E19 1990 no. 1 for a California Assembly report on desalination for water supply assurance. In order to seach a CalDoc number in ANTPAC do not put a space between the first letter and number. follow the number with a period and then type the next number and letter combination. Spaces can be used between any additional parts of the call number.
