More Information Regarding the VPN

EndNote Web is an online bibliographic management tool licensed for the UC Irvine community by the UC Irvine Libraries.  It is particularly useful for students doing short-term research for papers and other projects.  EndNote Web is accessible from every campus computer and every off-campus computer that is connected to the campus network through the Software VPN or WebVPN. It is an alternative to RefWorks, which will no longer be supported by the Libraries after December 31, 2009.

EndNote Web Features

• Can import references from online sources
  • (For ISI Web of Science and some databases from major vendors, citations can be exported directly into EndNote Web.)
• Can organize references in folders
  •  (Create groups to view and manage subsets of references)
• Can view reference details
• Can share reference folders -- for collaborating with others
• Can access your EndNote Web Library from any computer with Internet connection
• Can create formatted reference lists in a variety of publishing styles
• Can use Cite While You Write with MS Word

EndNote Web Limitations

• 10,000 citations maximum per library
• No attachments to citation records (no PDFs, images, etc.)

EndNote Web is available for UC Irvine use via the Web of Knowledge.

1. At the Web of Knowledge page, click "Sign In" and create an account.
2. Once you are logged in, click "My EndNote Web" and read and agree to the End User License Agreement.
3. Select an option from the "Getting Started with EndNote Web" page according to what you want to do.

Cite While You Write for Microsoft^® Word is a plug-in that inserts references and format citations and bibliographies automatically while you write your papers in Word.

To download, install and use the plug-in, click "Help" and then find the version appropriate for your computer and follow the instructions under the "Plug-ins" section.
